Scientific name: Marchantia polymorpha

Common name(s): common liverwort

Name as shown in Phylogenes: common liverwort

Ploidy: Diploid haploid

Description:

Amborella trichopoda is a small, vascular land plant that is endemic to the South Pacific Islands of New Caledonia.

Amborella, is the sole extant representative of the most basal clade of Angiosperms. As such, it plays an important role in understanding plant gene function and evolution of flowering plants

M. polymorpha is basal to the most simple and leafy liverwort lineages and its genome is essential for investigating fundamental events in land-plant evolution. It represents a widely distributed common liverwort that has a multicellular haploid gametophyte generation that alternates with a multicellular diploid sporophyte generation.
